Kovack Financial LLC, a privately owned financial services company headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has disclosed a data breach that may have exposed sensitive personal and financial information.

An unknown actor gained access to files on Kovack Financial's computer network between Aug. 8, 2025, and Aug. 27, 2025. The company became aware of suspicious activity on its network on or around Aug. 28, 2025, and took steps to secure its systems and launch an investigation.

The investigation confirmed that an unauthorized individual had accessed files stored on the company's network. Kovack Financial then began a detailed review of the affected files to determine what personal information they contained and which individuals were impacted.

The review was completed on July 16, 2026, which determined that certain individuals' information was contained within the accessed files and may have been viewed or taken by the unauthorized actor.

The types of personal information exposed included Social Security numbers, driver's licenses, government identification numbers, credit and debit account information, financial account information and financial account codes.

So far, 1,713 Massachusetts residents and 243 Vermont residents were identified as affected.

The breach was disclosed to attorneys general in California, Massachusetts and Vermont, with filings and notification letters dated Aug. 10, 2026.

Kovack Financial's response to the breach

Kovack Financial is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company.

To enroll, affected individuals can visit the Cyberscout enrollment page and enter the unique code provided in their notification letter. Enrollment must be completed within 90 days of the date of the letter.

Kovack Financial has also set up a dedicated call center to answer questions from affected individuals. The number is 833-954-3690, and representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
