Independent Solutions Wealth Management LLC, an SEC-registered investment advisory firm headquartered in Williamsville, New York, disclosed a data breach that originated with one of its strategic partners.
The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation and the Vermont Attorney General on Aug. 7, 2026.
Independent Solutions Wealth Management detected suspicious activity affecting a portion of a vendor's computer network on July 9, 2026. The company launched an investigation with the assistance of cybersecurity and privacy professionals to determine the scope of the problem.
The investigation found that an unauthorized actor gained access to a single system within the network. During the access, certain files and information stored on that system may have been accessible to the unauthorized actor.
The types of information potentially exposed varied by individual but may have included names, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, account numbers, credit and debit card numbers and other financial information.
Independent Solutions Wealth Management is offering affected individuals free identity monitoring services through Kroll, a global risk mitigation firm.
The services include single bureau credit monitoring, which sends alerts when changes appear on a credit file. They also include unlimited fraud consultation with Kroll specialists and identity theft restoration, in which a licensed Kroll investigator works on behalf of the affected individual to help resolve issues related to identity theft.
Affected individuals can enroll by visiting Kroll's enrollment page and entering the membership number included in their notification letter. Each letter includes a deadline for activation.
Individuals who have questions about their accounts can also connect with an advisor through the company's website.
