Forethought Data Breach Compromises Social Security Numbers

Forethought Life Insurance Co., a subsidiary of Global Atlantic Financial Group LLC, disclosed a data breach that occurred in July 2026.

Forethought is a life insurance and annuity insurer based in Indianapolis, Indiana. It serves as Global Atlantic's primary issuer of annuities and preneed life insurance products.

According to the company's notification to consumers, a breach of security involving personal information occurred on July 16, 2026, at Forethought Life Insurance Co.

The breach exposed both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI) including Social Security numbers and medical records.

The breach was reported to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Sept. 2026.

Forethought Life Insurance's response to the breach

The company is offering affected individuals 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection through Experian IdentityWorks.

To enroll, affected individuals can visit the Experian IdentityWorks enrollment page and enter the activation code provided in their notification letter. The enrollment deadline is Nov. 30, 2026.
