On Aug. 25, 2025, Central Jersey Medical Center (CJMC), a Federally Qualified Health Center serving communities in New Jersey, experienced a ransomware attack targeting its servers containing patient dental records. The cybercriminal infiltrated CJMC’s network and deployed ransomware that encrypted files containing sensitive patient data.

The threat actor behind the attack, known as Sinobi, later claimed responsibility and posted about the breach on the dark web on Oct. 10, 2025. The data breach compromised both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI).

Exposed patient information included names, dates of birth, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers, dental record numbers, health insurance information, dental diagnoses, treatment histories, and billing information. Central Jersey Medical Center recently published a notice of data security incident on its website.

The exposure of Social Security numbers and detailed health information puts impacted patients at risk of identity theft and medical fraud. The total number of affected individuals has not been released, but may include thousands of current and former dental patients.

Central Jersey Medical Center's response

CJMC responded to the cyberattack by securing its systems, engaging external cybersecurity experts and notifying law enforcement. In addition to required state and federal disclosures, the healthcare organization will notify affected individuals directly.

If you believe your personal information may have been compromised in this breach:

  • Carefully review any notice or communication you receive from Central Jersey Medical Center or a dental provider.
  • Monitor financial accounts and credit reports for signs of identity theft.
  • Consider placing fraud alerts or credit freezes with the major credit bureaus.
  • Be cautious of unsolicited emails or phone calls requesting personal information.

CJMC has established a dedicated number for individuals with questions at 732-376-6697, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time.
