The Association for Neurologically Impaired Brain Injured Children Inc. (ANIBIC), a Queens, New York-based nonprofit agency, disclosed a data breach that affected 1,918 individuals in the United States.
The breach was reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on July 17, 2026. The organization also posted a notice of the data security incident on its website.
Between March 7, 2025, and March 8, 2026, an unauthorized party gained access to ANIBIC's computer network. During this period, the intruder was able to access certain files stored on ANIBIC's systems.
The impacted files contained personal and medical information belonging to program members who receive care and services through the organization.
After the unauthorized activity was detected, a thorough review of the affected files was conducted to determine exactly what data had been compromised. The review confirmed that the breached records contained program member names, contact information, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, health insurance information, and service information such as medication information and diagnostic information.
ANIBIC is offering complimentary identity monitoring services to program members whose Social Security numbers may have been involved in the breach. This service is designed to help those individuals detect any signs of identity theft or other misuse of their personal information.
The organization also encouraged program members to remain vigilant and to carefully review all statements received from their healthcare providers. ANIBIC advised that if program members identify charges for services they did not receive, they should contact their healthcare provider right away to report the issue.
For program members with questions about the incident or who need help enrolling in the complimentary identity monitoring services, ANIBIC has set up a dedicated incident response phone line. Individuals can call 844-968-8914, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time, except for major U.S. holidays.
