HMA Mortgage Data Breach Exposes SSNs and Financial Information

Affordable Mortgage Advisors LLC, a Pittsburgh-based mortgage lender that does business as HMA Mortgage, disclosed a data breach affecting 957 residents of Texas so far.

The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Sept. 18, 2026.

The company discovered the breach on or about Aug. 25, 2025.

Between on July 7, 2025, and Sept. 9, 2025, unauthorized individuals gained access to the computer systems of Affordable Mortgage Advisors. During that window, the intruders had the ability to access information stored on the company's systems.

An investigation into the incident determined that personal information was exposed as a result of the unauthorized access. A review was conducted to determine the specific types of information impacted and the individuals affected. The review was completed on Aug. 21, 2026.

The type of consumer information confirmed as exposed in the breach included names, addresses, Social Security numbers and financial account information such as credit/ debit card numbers.

Affordable Mortgage Advisors' response to the breach

Affordable Mortgage Advisors is offering single bureau credit monitoring, fraud consultation and identity theft restoration through Kroll.

Additionally, the company set up a dedicated, confidential toll-free response line to answer questions about the incident. The line is available during business hours, Central Time, excluding some U.S. holidays.

The company's notification included detailed guidance on placing security freezes with the three nationwide credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
