Why Is There a Class Action Settlement?

The class action lawsuit claims that certain lots of the Covered Products may contain elevated levels of benzene, and that Unilever engaged in unfair business practices by selling potentially adulterated products. The Covered Products were recalled nationwide on March 30, 2022, after Unilever’s internal review showed slightly elevated levels of benzene in some product samples.

Unilever denies all claims and any wrongdoing. However, both parties have agreed to a settlement to avoid the costs and risks of a trial and to allow Settlement Class Members to receive payments. The Court will hold a Final Approval Hearing on September 13, 2024, to decide whether to approve the settlement.
