Individuals who received notice that an August 2024 data breach involving Planned Parenthood of Montana may have impacted their personal information could qualify to submit a claim for up to $5,000 in reimbursement, $80 in lost time and two years of medical data monitoring from a class action settlement.

Intermountain Planned Parenthood Inc. d/b/a Planned Parenthood of Montana agreed to settle a class action lawsuit. The class action alleges that, in August 2024, a cybercriminal gained unauthorized access to Planned Parenthood of Montana’s computer network, potentially exposing sensitive personal and medical information belonging to patients.

Who is eligible for a data breach payout?

Class members are individuals in the United States who received notice, including notice of this settlement, that the Planned Parenthood of Montana data breach that took place in August 2024 may have compromised their personal and protected health information.

How much can class members get?

Class members can submit fa claim for one or more of the following:

  • Medical data monitoring: All class members can elect to receive two years of CyEx Medical Shield Pro medical data monitoring services, which includes $1 million in medical identity theft insurance and monitoring for healthcare insurance ID exposure, medical record number exposure and unauthorized health savings account spending.
  • Documented out-of-pocket losses: Class members can claim up to $5,000 for actual, documented out-of-pocket losses traceable to the data breach that occurred between Sept. 6, 2024, and Jan. 12, 2026. Eligible expenses include losses from identity theft or fraud, fees for credit reports or credit monitoring, costs to replace IDs and postage to contact banks by mail.
  • Lost time: Class members can claim up to four hours at $20 per hour ($80 maximum) for time spent dealing with the data breach.

How to claim a class action rebate

To receive a settlement payment, class members must submit a claim form. They can file a claim online or download a PDF claim form, fill it out and mail or email it to the settlement administrator.

Class members must submitted their claim online, postmark it or email it by Jan. 12, 2026.

Required proof and claim information

  • To submit an online claim, class members must provide the notice ID and PIN from their settlement notice.
  • To submit a documented out-of-pocket claim, class members must provide supporting documentation which can include invoices and receipts for services, bank or credit card statements showing fees or unreimbursed fraudulent charges and any other proof of identity theft for fraudulent activity that caused a monetary loss.

Class members can choose from several payment options:

  • PayPal
  • Venmo
  • Zelle
  • Virtual prepaid card
  • Paper check mailed to address provided on claim form

Data breach settlement fund breakdown

The settlement fund will include:

  • Settlement administration costs: To be determined
  • Attorneys' fees and costs: Up to $400,000
  • Service awards to class representatives: $2,500 each ($5,000 total)
  • Medical monitoring: Cost determined by number of claims filed
  • Payments to approved claimants: Total determined by the number of claims filed

When is the Intermountain Planned Parenthood settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments to class members with valid claims approximately 60 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement.

Why is there a class action settlement?

This class action lawsuit claimed Planned Parenthood of Montana discovered a cybersecurity incident in August 2024. The plaintiffs alleged that a criminal third party accessed the company’s network and potentially compromised sensitive personal and medical information.

The company denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and uncertainty of continued litigation and a possible trial.
