Individuals who received notice of a data breach Pierce County Library System disclosed in July 2025 may qualify to submit a claim for up to $4,330 from a class action settlement. The cybersecurity incident impacted approximately 3,275 current and former employees, their family members and current and former contractors.

Who can file a claim for a data breach settlement payout?
Class members are current and former employees of Pierce County Library System, their family members and current and former contractors who received notice that the data breach may have compromised their personal information.
How much are settlement payments?
Class members have the following benefit options:
- Ordinary losses: Class members can claim up to $250 for out-of-pocket expenses. This includes bank fees, postage for contacting financial institutions, gasoline for local travel, credit report fees or credit monitoring class members purchased in response to the data breach.
- Extraordinary losses: Class members can claim up to $4,000 per person for documented and unreimbursed monetary losses from fraud or identity theft the data breach caused.
- Attested lost time: Class members can claim up to four hours at $20 an hour ($80 maximum) for lost time spent dealing with the data breach.
- Credit monitoring and identity restoration services: All class members can elect to receive three years of credit monitoring and identity restoration services, which includes $1,000,000 in identity theft insurance with no deductible.
- Alternative cash payment: Class members who do not submit a claim for ordinary losses, extraordinary loses or lost time can submit a claim to receive a cash payment of $70.
How to claim a class action rebate
To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form to complete and mail to the settlement administrator.

Required proof and claim information
- To submit a claim online, class members must provide the login ID and PIN from the settlement notice they received.
- To submit an ordinary and/or extraordinary losses claim, class members must provide third-party documentation. This includes receipts, invoices, bank or credit card statements showing unreimbursed fees or fraudulent charges, or other proof of identity theft or fraud.
- To submit a lost time claim, class members must provide a description of the activities they performed and the time they spent.

- Payments to approved claimants: Capped at $385,000

When is the Pierce County Library System data breach settlement payout date?
The settlement administrator will issue payments to approved claimants approximately 30 days after it approves claims or 90 days after the court grants final approval to the settlement, whichever is later.
Why did this class action settlement happen?
The class action lawsuit claimed a cybersecurity incident that PCLS disclosed in July 2025 may have exposed the personal information of employees, family members and contractors.
PCLS denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and risk of further litigation.
