Individuals whose personal and protected health information was compromised in the May 2024 Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network data breach, may be eligible to submit a claim for up to $5,000 from a class action settlement. The cyberattack compromised information belonging to 148,515 current and former patients and other individuals.
Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network (NRHN) has agreed to pay up to $1.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that it failed to adequately protect sensitive personal, health and financial information during a targeted cyberattack in May 2024. The lawsuit claims that the breach exposed details such as names, medical histories, Social Security numbers, financial account data and other sensitive records.
Who can file a data breach claim?
Class members are individuals residing in the United States whose private information may have been compromised, impacted or affected by the data breach discovered by Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network in May 2024.
How much is the class action settlement payout?
Class members can select one of two payment options:
- Documented losses: Class members can claim up to $5,000 for actual, documented out-of-pocket losses traceable to the data breach. Expenses may include fees for credit reports, credit monitoring or freezing/unfreezing credit, cost to replace identification documents, postage to contact banks or other financial institutions and monetary losses due to identity theft or fraud.
- Alternate cash payment: Class members that do not submit a documented losses claim can submit to receive a one-time cash payment of $75.
There is a $500,000 cap on the total amount available for both claim options. If the claims total exceeds $500,000, all payments will be reduced on a pro rata basis.

Why was there a class action settlement?
The lawsuit was filed after a cyberattack on Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network’s computer systems in May 2024 led to unauthorized access to files containing sensitive personal information. Plaintiffs alleged that NRHN failed to adequately safeguard this data.
While NRHN denies any the allegations, both sides agreed to settle to avoid the expense and uncertainties of continued litigation. The settlement also requires NRHN to invest in enhanced data security.
