
Individuals who cancelled a New York Times digital or home delivery subscription with a New York billing address, and were directly billed by the company, may qualify to submit a claim for $14 from a settlement.
The New York Times Co. has agreed to pay a settlement to resolve claims regarding how it handled cancellations for home delivery and digital subscriptions for certain New York customers. This agreement follows an investigation by the New York Office of the Attorney General into the company’s cancellation practices.
Who can file a claim?
There are two groups of eligible NYT subscribers:
- Digital subscribers who cancelled their subscription between Jan. 19, 2018, and June 30, 2022.
- Home delivery subscribers who cancelled their subscription between Jan. 19, 2018, and Aug. 9, 2023.
All eligible subscriptions must have been billed directly by The New York Times, not through a third party, and the billing zip code must have been in New York state.
How much is the settlement payout?
Cash payment: All subscribers with a valid claim will receive a one-time cash payment of $14.
How to claim an award
To receive an NYT settlement payment, eligible subscribers can file a claim online or print and complete the digital subscriber PDF claim form or the home delivery subscriber PDF claim form to mail or email it to the settlement administrator.

Payout options
Class members that file a claim online can select one of the following options.
- PayPal
- Venmo
- ACH
- Virtual Mastercard
- Paper check mailed to the address provided
Class members that file a claim by mail will receive a paper check.

The settlement fund will cover all payments to approved claimants, as well as administrative costs and any other court-approved expenses.
