Mubi $1.6M Subscription Renewal Class Action Settlement

California residents who signed up for a Mubi subscription on or after April 1, 2021, and did not receive a refund after the company renewed their subscription may be eligible to claim a cash payment from a class action settlement.

Mubi Inc., a global streaming service, production company and film distributor, agreed to pay $1.6 million to settle a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged Mubi failed to provide adequate notice to consumers that it would automatically renew subscriptions and did not obtain sufficient consent for those renewals in violation of California law.

Who can file a claim?

Class members are eligible to file a claim if they meet all of the following criteria:

  • They resided in California at the time they signed up for a Mubi subscription.
  • They signed up for a Mubi subscription on or after April 1, 2021.
  • Mubi renewed their subscription between April 1, 2021, and May 31, 2025.
  • They did not receive a refund from Mubi for all renewal subscription charges.

How much can class members get?

Pro rata payment: Each class member who submits a valid and timely claim will receive an equal share of the $1.6 million settlement fund after deductions for attorneys’ fees, administration costs and a service award to the class representative.

How to claim a class action payment

Class members can file the online claim form or download and print the PDF claim form%203_20_26%20(v3).pdf) and complete and mail it to the settlement administrator. The claim deadline is June 9, 2026.

When is the Mubi settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will distribute payments approximately 30 days after the court resolves any appeals and grants final approval to the settlement.

Why did this class action settlement happen?

The class action lawsuit alleged Mubi Inc. failed to provide adequate notice to consumers about automatic subscription renewals and did not obtain sufficient consent for those renewals, violating California’s False Advertising Law and Unfair Competition Law.

Mubi denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the uncertainty and expense of further litigation. The settlement provides compensation to affected consumers without the need for a trial.
