Current and former employees and their dependents who lived in the United States and received notice that the January 2023 Cannon Corp. data breach compromised their personal information may qualify to submit a claim for up to $10,000 or other benefits from a class action settlement.

The Cannon Corp. Inc. agreed to pay $537,500 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging unauthorized parties accessed files containing sensitive employee information, including names, dates of birth, contact details, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, state identification numbers and passport numbers, in a targeted cyberattack that occurred in January 2023.

Who qualifies for a data breach payment?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

  • The January 2023 Cannon data incident compromised their personal information.
  • They received a notification from Cannon about the breach.
  • The resided in the United States at the time of the breach

How much is the class action settlement payout?

Class members may claim one or more of the following benefits:

  • Unreimbursed economic losses: Class members can submit a claim to receive up to $10,000 in actual documented unreimbursed financial losses traceable to the data breach. This includes monetary losses from fraud or identity theft, professional attorneys' or accountants' fees, credit repair fees and costs for freezing or unfreezing credit and credit monitoring services.
  • Pro rata cash payment: All claimants can also submit to receive a cash payment estimated at $40. The settlement administrator will determine the final payment amount by the number of valid claims filed.
  • Credit monitoring services: All class members can elect to receive two years of three-bureau credit monitoring services.

How to claim a class action rebate

Class members can file a claim online or print a PDF claim form to mail to the settlement administrator.

The deadline to submit a claim online or by mail is Nov. 25, 2025.

Required proof and claim information

  • To submit an online claim, class members must provide the unique ID and PIN from their settlement notice.
  • Unreimbursed economic losses claims require supporting documentation, such as receipts, bank or credit card statements showing expenses, police reports or proof of falsified tax returns, fraud charges or identity theft traceable to the data breach.

Class members can choose from several payment methods:

  • Venmo
  • Zelle
  • Virtual prepaid card
  • Paper check mailed to address provided

$537,500 data breach settlement fund

The $537,500 settlement fund will include:

  • Settlement administration costs: Estimated at $30,000
  • Attorneys’ fees: Up to $204,166.67
  • Attorneys' expenses: Up to $25,000
  • Service award to class representative: Up to $5,000
  • Credit monitoring costs: Determined by number of claims filed
  • Payments to approved claimants: Remaining settlement funds

When is the Cannon Design data breach settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will mail credit monitoring activation codes to approved claimants within 75 days of the final approval date. It will issue payments 75 days after the final approval date or within 30 days of claim approval, whichever date is later.

Why did this class action settlement happen?

The class lawsuit alleged a targeted cyberattack on Cannon’s computer systems in January 2023 resulted in unauthorized access to files containing private employee information.

The class action claimed Cannon failed to adequately protect this sensitive data. Cannon denies these allegations, but both parties agreed to settle to avoid the expense and uncertainties of continued litigation.
