WilmerHale Data Breach Exposes Social Security Numbers

Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, commonly known as WilmerHale, disclosed a data breach that may have exposed the personal information of individuals connected to the firm's legal services. So far, 436 Texas residents, 42 Massachusetts residents and 11 Vermont residents were impacted.

The breach was additionally disclosed to the California Attorney General on July 10, 2026. WilmerHale discovered the breach on June 25, 2026, and began notifying affected individuals by U.S. mail on July 10, 2026.

On May 8, 2026, a WilmerHale employee mistakenly provided information to an unauthorized third party who had misrepresented their identity, according to the company's notification to consumers.

The firm's investigation determined that the breach was an isolated event and that the unauthorized third party did not directly access WilmerHale's computer systems.

The information exposed in the breach included names and Social Security numbers.

WilmerHale's response to the breach

WilmerHale is offering a complimentary 24-month membership to Experian IdentityWorks, a credit monitoring and identity theft protection service.

Affected individuals can enroll at the Experian IdentityWorks website using the activation code included in their notification letter. The deadline to enroll is Oct. 30, 2026.

Individuals with questions about the breach or the services being offered can call the toll-free number listed in their notification letter. The line is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
