Wichita Family Dental Data Breach Compromises PHI and PII

Wichita Family Dental, a dental practice serving patients in Wichita and Derby, Kansas, disclosed a data breach that affected approximately 1,273 individuals in the United States.

The breach was reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Sept. 11, 2026. Wichita Family Dental additionally posted a notice on its website.

On or around May 4, 2026, Wichita Family Dental became aware of unauthorized access to an employee email account. Upon discovering the issue, the practice secured the compromised account and launched an investigation into the nature and scope of the incident.

The investigation found that an unauthorized party may have been able to view personal and medical information contained in the emails within the account.

Wichita Family Dental then initiated a comprehensive review of the relevant mail items. The review was completed on July 6, 2026.

The types of information that may have been exposed vary by individual but may have included names, dates of birth, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver's license or state identification numbers, taxpayer identification numbers, financial account information, payment card information, dental records and health insurance information.

Wichita Family Dental's response to the breach

Wichita Family Dental encourages affected individuals to remain vigilant by reviewing account statements, credit reports and explanations of benefits for any unusual activity. It also advises people to report any suspicious activity to their health care provider, insurance company or financial institution.

The notification provides detailed guidance on how individuals can place fraud alerts and credit freezes with the three major credit reporting bureaus at no cost.

The company set up a dedicated phone line for individuals who have questions or need assistance regarding the breach. Affected individuals can call 316-243-9237, Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Individuals may also send written correspondence to the practice at 9339 E. 21st St. N, Wichita, KS 67206.
