On or about April 28, 2025, UFCW Local 342, a prominent labor union representing workers in New York and New Jersey, discovered a data breach affecting 56,615 individuals across the United States, including 105 Massachusetts residents, 30 Maine residents, and 15 New Hampshire residents.

It was found that between April 25 and April 28, 2025, files were accessed by an unauthorized user on the company's network. On Feb. 12, 2026, the investigation of the affected files was completed.

The breach was officially disclosed to the attorneys general of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont starting on March 9, 2026. Notification letters were sent to affected individuals the same day.

The types of consumer information exposed include full names, driver's license numbers or state ID numbers, financial account, passport numbers, health insurance information, medical records, taxpayer information, and Social Security numbers.

UFCW's response

UFCW Local 342 has established a dedicated toll-free response line at 833-518-0169 for questions and additional information. They are also offering complimentary credit monitoring services to those impacted.

To enroll, individuals must use a unique code provided in their notification letter and sign up within 90 days from the date of the notice.

Affected members are encouraged to take proactive measures, including:

  • Placing a one-year fraud alert on their credit files with any of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion)
  • Considering a security freeze on their credit report, which restricts access to their credit file and helps prevent identity theft
  • Obtaining a free credit report from each major credit bureau to check for any unauthorized activity
  • Monitoring explanation of benefits statements from health insurers to detect possible medical identity theft

The union’s notification also provides detailed contact information for state and federal agencies offering further resources on identity theft prevention.
