TD Bank Data Breach Exposes Personal and Financial Information

TD Bank, a North American bank part of the Toronto-Dominion Bank group, disclosed a data breach involving the potential disclosure of customers' personal and financial information.

The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Sept. 15, 2026. So far, 54 Massachusetts residents were identified as affected.

TD Bank recently discovered a data security event that may have resulted in the access to or disclosure of certain personal information in its possession. The company did not provide specific dates for when the event occurred or when it was discovered.

The types of information potentially exposed included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, government-issued identification cards, Social Security cards, pay stubs, W2s, financial account information and credit or debit card numbers.

TD Bank's response to the breach

The bank is offering affected customers a complimentary two-year membership to Fraud-Defender, an identity monitoring service provided by Merchants Information Solutions.

Affected individuals can activate their membership by following the enrollment steps included in their notification letter. For help with enrollment or questions about the service, customers can call Merchants Information Solutions at 1-800-366-6573 during business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. EST.

TD Bank also offered to help customers who want added protection close their existing accounts and open new ones. The bank stated it would cover all associated expenses.

The company recommended that affected customers establish passwords on their accounts and routinely change online account passwords and security questions at TD Bank and other companies.

TD Bank also encouraged customers to remain vigilant by regularly reviewing account statements and monitoring credit reports over the next 12 to 24 months. Customers can notify TD Bank of any suspicious activity or suspected identity theft by calling 1-800-893-8554.
