Hispanic Counseling Center, a nonprofit behavioral health and human services organization serving Long Island families and children, experienced a data breach through its electronic medical records vendor, Accumedic Computer Systems.
On June 8, 2026, Accumedic detected suspicious activity within its network. The company isolated affected servers and launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts.
Accumedic's investigation and document review concluded on Aug. 7, 2026.
The investigation determined that an unauthorized third party first gained access to Accumedic's systems on or around April 8, 2026, however, customer information was potentially obtained between June 4 and June 8, 2026.
Following the completion of its investigation, Accumedic worked to identify which of its clients' data may have been involved.
On Sept. 1, 2026, the vendor confirmed to Hispanic Counseling Center that the impacted files may have contained personal information belonging to some of its clients.
The types of information exposed included first and last names, Social Security numbers and medical records.
The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Oct. 30, 2026. Hispanic Counseling Center began notifying affected consumers by written notice on Oct. 30, 2026.
Hispanic Counseling Center is offering complimentary identity protection services and credit monitoring through Experian IdentityWorks. Affected individuals can enroll by visiting the Experian IdentityWorks enrollment page by Feb. 26, 2027.
