Sunshine Health, a Florida-based managed care health insurance company, disclosed a data breach that affected 41,569 individuals in the United States.
On May 6, 2026, Sunshine Health learned that a caller pretending to be a trusted individual misled an employee into sharing health plan files with an unauthorized party.
The company said the exposed files contained personal and health-related information about some of its plan members. The types of information involved vary by individual but may include names, dates of birth, medical information and health plan coverage information.
The breach was disclosed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on July 10, 2026. Sunshine Health posted a notice on its website explaining what happened and outlining steps that affected individuals can take to protect themselves.
Sunshine Health is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to affected individuals, according to the notice. The company is providing these services as a precaution to help members watch for any unusual activity connected to their personal or health-related information.
Sunshine Health has set up a dedicated phone line for those who have questions about the incident or need guidance on protecting their information. Representatives are available at 1-855-830-9423, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
