Sterling Seacrest Pritchard Inc., a Georgia-based insurance brokerage and risk management firm, disclosed a data breach that affected approximately 7,420 individuals in the United States, including 20 Maine residents.
The company completed its review of the breach on March 19, 2026, and began notifying affected consumers on March 25, 2026, via written letter sent through U.S. mail. The breach was disclosed to the Maine Attorney General on March 27, 2026.
On Aug. 13, 2025, Sterling Seacrest Pritchard (SSP) discovered suspicious activity within its email environment, according to the company's notification letter to affected individuals.
An investigation determined that certain data within the company's email environment may have been accessed or acquired without authorization between Aug. 12, 2025, and Aug. 13, 2025.
SSP then undertook a comprehensive review of the potentially affected information to identify what data was involved and which individuals were impacted. This review process took approximately seven months to complete.
The personal information exposed in the breach included names and Social Security numbers.
Given that Social Security numbers were among the data exposed, SSP is offering affected individuals 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Kroll, a global leader in risk mitigation and response. These services include single bureau credit monitoring, fraud consultation and identity theft restoration, according to the company's notification letter.
Through the credit monitoring service, individuals will receive alerts when there are changes to their credit data. The fraud consultation service provides unlimited access to a Kroll specialist who can help explain rights and protections under the law and assist with investigating suspicious activity that could be tied to identity theft.
Affected individuals can activate their monitoring services by visiting Kroll's enrollment website and entering the membership number included in their notification letter. Each letter includes a deadline by which individuals must enroll to take advantage of these services.
SSP has also established a toll-free call center at 844-403-4513, staffed by Kroll representatives, to answer questions about the incident and address related concerns. The call center is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Central time, excluding major U.S. holidays. Individuals who prefer an alternative to enrolling online can also call this number for assistance.
