One June 3, 2025, Southern Tire Mart LLC, the largest commercial tire dealer and retread manufacturer in North America, discovered a data breach affecting thousands of individuals. An investigation revealed that between June 2 and June 3, 2025, unauthorized access occurred within Southern Tire Mart's internal network.

A review determined that files containing sensitive personal and financial information may have been accessed during the data breach. Exposed information may include names, addresses, Social Security numbers and direct deposit or bank account information.

Southern Tire Mart disclosed the cybersecurity incident to the California and Texas Attorney Generals' offices beginning on July 25, 2025. The data breach impacted at least 6,267 individuals in Texas alone.

Southern Tire Mart's response

The company contained the incident within a day of discovery and took immediate actions to prevent further unauthorized access. In addition to the required state disclosures, Southern Tire Mart is notifying affected individuals by mail and offering 12 months of IDX identity theft protection services free of charge.

If you receive a notice from Southern Tire Mart about this breach, you may want to:

  • Sign up for the free IDX identity theft protection services, offered by Southern Tire Mart.
  • Monitor your credit reports and financial accounts for any unusual activity.
  • Be alert for phishing emails or phone calls that may use your exposed information.
  • Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with major credit bureaus.

For more information about the company, visit the Southern Tire Mart website.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
