On Jan. 22, 2026, Powerhouse Retail Services (Powerhouse) discovered that an unauthorized individual had gained access to its network and may have viewed a limited amount of data. The breach was determined to have likely occurred on or about Sept. 20, 2023.

According to a disclosure filed with the Maine Attorney General, the breach affected a total of 7,856 individuals in the United States, including 34 Maine residents and nine Rhode Island residents.

The incident was also disclosed to the Vermont Attorney General. On Feb. 3, 2026, affected individuals were notified in writing.

At this time, the only confirmed information type exposed are names; however, since the method of breach suggests a targeted intrusion rather than an accidental exposure or loss, the information exposed could include sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, etc.

While the specific method of intrusion was not detailed, the company emphasized that only a limited amount of data was potentially viewed or acquired.

Powerhouse's response

Upon learning of the incident, Powerhouse began a thorough investigation and engaged external cybersecurity professionals experienced in handling such matters. The company worked to determine the scope of the breach and the types of information involved.

To help protect those affected, Powerhouse is offering a complimentary membership for Epiq for a period specified in the individual notice.

This service includes credit monitoring, identity protection, dark web monitoring, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance, among other features. Enrolling in this program will not affect an individual’s credit score, and a credit card is not required for enrollment.

The company recommends that affected individuals remain vigilant by reviewing financial account statements and credit reports for irregular activity. Additional precautionary measures suggested include placing a fraud alert or security freeze on credit files and obtaining a free credit report from the major credit bureaus.

The company has also set up a confidential toll-free response line at 855-291-2576, available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, to answer questions and provide assistance.
