Platinum Federal Credit Union (PFCU) experienced a data breach. On March 27, 2025, the financial institution detected suspicious activity within an employee email account. An investigation determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to the account and personal information may have been compromised.

A review took place and on Sept. 17, 2025 it was determined that the cyberattack exposed names, Social Security numbers and financial account information. Platinum Federal Credit Union began notifying affected individuals by mail on Sept. 24, 2025.

The data breach was also disclosed to the Massachusetts Attorney General's office on Sept. 30, 2025. The total number of individuals affected by the breach has not been released, but may have included thousands of credit union account holders.

Platinum Federal Credit Union’s response

In response to the incident, PFCU secured the compromised email account and engaged a third-party forensic firm to assist with the investigation. In addition to required state and federal disclosures, the credit union is offering affected individuals free Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring and identity protection services.
