
Petco Animal Supplies Stores Inc., a national pet retailer headquartered in San Diego, recently disclosed a data breach that exposed government-issued identification information belonging to consumers.
The breach was reported to the attorneys general of Massachusetts and Vermont.
Petco discovered a recent issue that involved some of the personal information it maintains. The company sent letters to affected consumers through a secure processing center outlining the incident and the steps being taken in response.
The personally identifiable information exposed in the breach included government ID numbers and driver's licenses.
Petco is offering a complimentary two-year credit and identity monitoring membership through Epiq's Privacy Solutions ID program.
To enroll in the program, affected individuals should visit Privacy Solutions ID and click "Activate Account." They will then need to enter the unique activation code provided in their notification letter, complete an enrollment form and verify their identity. Each notification letter includes a specific enrollment deadline.
Petco has set up a dedicated phone line at 855-720-3172, available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time, excluding certain major U.S. holidays.
