Miami Plastic Surgery experienced a major data beach impacting patient information. On Feb. 26, 2025, the practice and its management company, DermCare Management, detected suspicious activity within their computer systems.

On March 3, 2025 an investigation revealed a cybercriminal may have copied certain patient information from the DermCare Management network without permission. The number of impacted individuals has not been released, but is likely in the thousands.

The cyberattack compromised both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI). Exposed information includes names, Social Security numbers, driver's license number, medical records, health insurance information and financial information. Miami Plastic Surgery published an updated Notice of Security Event on it's website on May 2, 2025.

Miami Plastic Surgery's response

After discovering the data breach, Miami Plastic Surgery secured their network and launched an investigation. Once a review is complete and the identity and contact information of affected individuals is confirmed, additional notification will be sent by mail.

If you receive a notice from Miami Plastic Surgery or DermCare Management about this breach, you may want to:

  • Sign up for free credit monitoring services, if offered.
  • Monitor your credit reports and financial accounts for any unusual activity.
  • Be alert for phishing emails or phone calls that may use your exposed information.
  • Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with major credit bureaus.

DermCare Management has also established a dedicated assistance line for patients with questions at 833-998-7517, Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm EST.

For more information about the medical practice, visit the Miami Plastic Surgery website.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
