Martin Brothers Distributing Co. Inc., a family-owned foodservice distributor based in Cedar Falls, Iowa, reported a data breach that originated at PDCM Insurance, its third-party benefits administration partner.

The breach was disclosed to the Iowa Attorney General on Sept. 29, 2026, with 1,085 Iowa residents identified as affected.

Between April 27 and April 28, 2025, an unauthorized party gained access to certain files and folders within PDCM Insurance's computer systems.

Upon discovering the suspicious network activity on April 28, 2025, PDCM took steps to secure its network and began an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. PDCM then began an extensive review of the involved systems to determine whether they contained protected information.

On Feb. 17, 2026, PDCM determined that information associated with individuals connected to Martin Bros. was involved. The notification stated that the incident occurred entirely within PDCM's systems and was not the result of any failure or action on the part of Martin Bros.

PDCM formally notified Martin Bros. of the incident on Aug. 3, 2026.

The types of information exposed vary by individual and may include personal, employment, insurance, financial and health-related data. Personally identifiable information that may have been compromised includes names, contact information, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, employer-assigned identification numbers, insurance policy information, insurance claim information, medical information and billing information.

Martin Brothers' response to the breach

PDCM is offering five years of complimentary credit monitoring services through Kroll to potentially affected individuals. Affected individuals can enroll in the monitoring services using the membership number included in their notification letter. The deadline to activate these services is listed in each person's letter.
