Life Unlimited Data Breach Exposes Sensitive Financial and Medical Data

Life Unlimited Inc., a Missouri-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides disability services in the Kansas City metro area and Northwest Missouri, disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to its computer network.

The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Sept. 5, 2026. The organization also posted a notice on its website with details about the incident and guidance on protective steps.

An unauthorized actor may have gained access to Life Unlimited's network environment between on or about Jan. 20, 2025, and on or about Jan. 25, 2025.

Through an investigation and review of the impacted documents, the company determined that the impacted systems contained personal information belonging to its customers and clients.

The types of personally identifiable information (PII) that may have been exposed included Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, state identification numbers and financial account numbers.

The breach also exposed protected health information (PHI), including health insurance application or claims information, patient account numbers, medical history, conditions, treatments or diagnoses, patient dates of service, patient names, patient telephone numbers and patient email addresses.

Life Unlimited's response to the breach

Life Unlimited is offering complimentary credit monitoring services to affected individuals.

The company set up a dedicated, confidential toll-free response line at 844-958-8968 for anyone with questions about the incident. The line is staffed with professionals who are familiar with the breach and is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Central time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
