GAMA Data Breach Impacts 6,000 Texans: PII Exposed

Greater Austin Merchants Cooperative Association, commonly known as GAMA, disclosed a data breach that affected approximately 6,000 people in Texas.

The breach was reported to the Texas Attorney General on Sept. 15, 2026.

On Aug. 12, 2026, INC Ransom, a threat actor on the dark web, claimed it had obtained approximately 400 gigabytes of GAMA's internal data. The stolen data reportedly included employee records, identification documents, financial and business records and other internal corporate files. The posting listed multiple distinct categories of compromised files, spanning several areas of the organization's internal records.

The types of personal information confirmed to have been exposed included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, government-issued identification numbers (such as passports or state ID cards), financial information (such as account numbers or credit and debit card numbers) and dates of birth.

GAMA's response to the breach

Given the sensitivity of the personal data involved in this breach, affected individuals should not wait for official correspondence from the organization before taking steps to protect themselves. It is important to remain vigilant and review accounts for any suspicious or unauthorized activity.
