On Feb. 26, 2025, Dania Dermatology and its management company, DermCare Management, identified suspicious activity on their computer systems. An investigation was launched and on March 3, 2025 it was determined a cybercriminal may have copied certain patient information from the network.

The data breach compromised both both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI). Dania Dermatology posted an updated Notice of Data Security Event on its website on May 2, 2025.

Exposed information may include names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, medical information and health insurance information. The exact number of affected individuals has not been released.

Dania Dermatology's response

Dania Dermatology responded by securing its network and launching an investigation in coordination with DermCare Management. A review is taking place and impacted individuals will be notified by mail.

If you receive a notice from Dania Dermatology or DermCare Management about this breach, you may want to:

  • Sign up for the free credit monitoring services, if offered.
  • Monitor your credit reports and financial accounts for any unusual activity.
  • Be alert for phishing emails or phone calls that may use your exposed information.
  • Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with major credit bureaus.

A dedicated assistance line has been set up for affected patients at 833-998-7517, available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.

More information about the medical practice can be found on the Dania Dermatology website.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
