Chatham Asset Management, a hedge fund and investment firm based in New Jersey, recently experienced a data breach exposing personal information of individuals connected to its network.

On Dec. 8, 2025, unauthorized activity was detected in the company’s computer systems. Shortly after, on Dec. 23, 2025, a hacking group known as Worldleaks claimed responsibility for the breach, announcing on a dark web forum that they had obtained sensitive data from the organization and intended to publish it within days.

The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Jan. 20, 2026, and to the Vermont Attorney General on Jan. 21, 2026. While the exact number of affected individuals has not been specified, there is at least one individual in Massachusetts.

In addition, the information exposed includes Social Security numbers, names, and driver's licenses.

Chatham Asset Management's response

In response to the breach, Chatham Asset Management secured the affected systems and engaged third-party cybersecurity experts. The company also notified law enforcement and began a forensic investigation to determine the scope and impact of the incident.

To assist those affected, Chatham Asset Management is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services for a specified period through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company specializing in fraud assistance. Affected individuals are encouraged to enroll in these services within ninety days of receiving notification.

Chatham Asset Management advises all individuals to remain vigilant by monitoring financial accounts and credit reports for any suspicious activity. They recommend placing fraud alerts or security freezes with the major credit bureaus and considering an IRS Identity Protection PIN to prevent tax-related identity theft.

Additional resources and detailed steps for protecting personal information are included in the official notice to consumers.
