
One of the largest federal credit unions in Central Massachusetts, Central One Federal Credit Union, has experienced a data breach. The cybersecurity incident compromised both personally identifiable information (PII) of more than 50,000 current and former credit union customers.
Exposed data included names, Social Security numbers, driver's license or state ID numbers, financial account information and medical and health insurance information. The total number of impacted individuals includes 56,923 Massachusetts residents, 274 in Texas, and 26 in Montana.
The company began disclosing the data breach on Nov. 10, 2025 to the Attorney Generals' offices in Massachusetts, Texas, and Montana.
In response to the incident, the credit union took immediate steps to block access and implement steps to enhance data security. Central One Federal Credit Union is notifying affected individuals by mail.
