Salina based, Central Kansas Mental Health Center, disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to its computer network that was discovered the breach on Sept. 26, 2025.

It later posted a notice about the incident on its website, dated Nov. 19, 2025, to inform individuals who may have been affected. At the time of the posting, Central Kansas Mental Health Center said it was still working to identify everyone who was impacted.

According to the notice, staff immediately implemented incident response protocols and took the network offline to prevent further unauthorized access. The organization also brought in external cybersecurity experts to conduct a detailed investigation into the nature and scope of the incident.

The investigation determined that an unauthorized individual had gained access to the organization's network and likely accessed files containing protected health information. The specific types of PHI that may have been exposed in this incident were not detailed in the notice.

At the time the notice was published in November 2025, the investigation was still underway. The organization stated it was conducting a thorough review of all affected files to determine which individuals were impacted and what specific information was associated with each person.

Central Kansas Mental Health Center's response

The organization stated that notification letters would be mailed as soon as possible to all impacted individuals for whom it has valid mailing addresses. Those letters are expected to include more specific details about the incident, clear instructions for enrolling in complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services at no cost to affected individuals, and additional steps people can take to help protect their personal and health information.

Central Kansas Mental Health Center said in its notice that it had found no evidence that any of the personal information involved in the incident had been misused. Despite this, the organization said it wanted to notify individuals "out of an abundance of caution" so they could take proactive steps to protect their data.

Representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST to provide information about the breach and answer questions.

In its notice, the organization stated, "Protecting personal information is of the utmost importance to CKMHC, and we sincerely apologize for any concern this incident may cause."
