Center for Life Resources, a nonprofit community mental health center based in Brownwood, Texas, recently experienced a data breach that may impact clients across seven counties. The incident was first detected on Nov. 17, 2025, when the organization noticed unusual activity within its internal network. Steps were taken to secure their systems and ensure that client care services were not disrupted.
A subsequent investigation, aided by cybersecurity specialists, determined that an unauthorized actor had accessed the network on Nov. 14 and Nov. 15, 2025. During this period, files were copied and potentially viewed.
The breach was later linked to the Sinobi ransomware group, which publicly claimed responsibility on Dec. 23, 2025, via a posting on the Tor network. Sinobi asserted they had obtained 120 GB of data, including financial information, customer data and contracts, and threatened to publish the stolen data within days.
According to the disclosure filed with the Texas Attorney General on Jan. 30, 2026, the exposed information may include a wide range of personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI): name, address, Social Security number, driver’s license number, date of birth, medical information and health insurance information.
While the organization has not yet confirmed the exact number of individuals affected, the breach has the potential to impact anyone who has received services from Center for Life Resources in recent years.
The investigation is ongoing and the true scope may expand as more details emerge. The company posted a notice of the incident on its website.
In response to the breach, Center for Life Resources took action to secure its network and launched a comprehensive investigation with cybersecurity experts. As part of its ongoing response, the center is conducting a detailed review of the compromised files to determine exactly what information was affected and to identify the individuals involved.
Once the review is complete, the center plans to directly notify affected individuals by mail, provided that valid addresses are available. In the meantime, the organization has disclosed the incident on its website and in print media to keep the community informed.
