Bronsky Orthodontics, a New York City orthodontic practice, disclosed a data breach that affected approximately 3,183 individuals in the United States.

The breach was reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on May 8, 2026. Bronsky Orthodontics also posted a notice of the incident on its website.

On Oct. 16, 2025, Bronsky Orthodontics detected unusual activity within an employee email account. The practice launched an investigation to determine the scope and nature of the incident.

The investigation found that employee email accounts had been subject to unauthorized access by an unknown actor. The unauthorized access occurred over a period of approximately two months, from roughly Aug. 18 through Oct. 16, 2025.

The identity of the unauthorized actor has not been disclosed.

On March 11, 2026, a review confirmed that patient data was present within the potentially impacted emails and attachments.

The types of information exposed included both personally identifiable information and protected health information such as names, dates of birth, contact information, dental and orthodontic treatment information, insurance information, financial account information and/or government-issued identification numbers, such as Social Security numbers and driver's licenses.

Bronsky Orthodontics' response to the breach

Bronsky Orthodontics encouraged potentially impacted individuals to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft. The company advised patients to review their account statements and explanations of benefits for any unusual activity and to report suspicious activity promptly to their insurance company, health care provider or financial institution.

The company also provided detailed guidance in its notice on how to place fraud alerts and credit freezes and how to file complaints with the Federal Trade Commission.

For anyone with questions about the incident, the practice has set up a dedicated toll-free assistance line. Affected individuals can call 844-603-5203, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST.
