Consumers who visited Tampa General Hospital’s website or patient portal in the United States between May 1, 2017, and Aug. 23, 2022, may qualify to submit a claim for $15 from a class action settlement.
Florida Health Sciences Center Inc., doing business as Tampa General Hospital, agreed to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging the hospital violated the Florida Security of Communications Act and other laws. The lawsuit claims the hospital used advertising technology (including Meta Pixel and others) on its website and patient portal, which may have improperly shared visitor information.

When is the data privacy settlement payout date?
Payments to class members will be made approximately 60 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement or once the settlement administrator validates claims, whichever is later.
Why did this class action settlement happen?
The class action lawsuit alleged Florida Health Sciences Center Inc. d/b/a Tampa General Hospital violated the Florida Security of Communications Act and other laws by using adtech, such as Meta Pixel, on its website and patient portal. The plaintiffs claimed this technology improperly shared information about website and portal visitors.
The defendant denies any wrongdoing, but both sides settled to avoid the costs and uncertainties of further litigation. Tampa General Hospital also agreed to suspend the use of adtech moving forward.
Tampa General Hospital is also involved in a data breach settlement. The court granted final approval on Feb. 3, 2025. According to the settlement agreement, payments will be issued by the end of May 2025 as long as there are no appeals.
