Why did this class action settlement happen?

The class action lawsuit alleged Equifax reported inaccurate credit information due to a coding error on one of its servers between March 17 and April 8, 2022. The plaintiffs claimed this violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which requires credit reporting agencies to follow reasonable procedures to ensure maximum possible accuracy.

Equifax denied the allegations but agreed to settle to avoid the cost and uncertainty of further litigation and a possible trial.
