Consumers who lived in the United States and had their personal data involved in either the AT&T data incident announced on March 30, 2024, or the data incident announced on July 12, 2024, may be eligible to submit a claim up to $5,000 from a class action settlement coming soon.

AT&T agreed to pay $177 million to settle a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges AT&T failed to adequately protect customer data, resulting in two major data breaches that exposed sensitive information. The settlement provides cash payments to eligible class members whose data was compromised in either or both incidents.

The AT&T 1 settlement fund is for the data breach announced on March 30, 2024, and is $149 million.

The AT&T 2 settlement fund is for the data breach announced on July 12, 2024, and is $28 million.

According to court documents, the official settlement notice, settlement website and claim form will be available on or around Aug. 4, 2025.

Who is eligible for an AT&T data breach payout?

Eligible consumers qualify for one or more of the following classes:

  • AT&T 1 settlement class: Individuals in the United States whose data elements were included in the AT&T 1 data incident announced on March 30, 2024.
    • Data elements may include names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, account passcodes, billing account numbers and Social Security numbers.
  • AT&T 2 settlement class: AT&T account owners or line/end users whose data elements were involved in the AT&T 2 data incident announced on July 12, 2024.
    • Data elements may include telephone numbers of current and former AT&T customers, numbers with which those customers interacted, counts of those interactions, aggregate call durations and, for a small subset, cell site identification numbers.
    • The AT&T 2 settlement class includes account owners and individual line or end users.

Settlement class members that are in both AT&T 1 and AT&T 2 settlement classes are known as overlap settlement class members.

Who is excluded from the class?

Individuals participating in AT&T data breach arbitration with a specific law firm should contact their attorney directly with any questions about whether or not they are eligible to participate in the class action settlement.

How much is the AT&T data breach settlement payment?

Class members have the following benefit options. Overlap settlement class members may claim both AT&T 1 and AT&T 2 settlement benefits.

AT&T 1 settlement benefits:

  • Documented loss cash payment: Class members can submit for up to $5,000 in monetary losses incurred in 2019 or later that are fairly traceable to the AT&T 1 data breach. Class members that submit both AT&T 1 and AT&T 2 documented loss claims must provide unique documentation for each claim.
  • Tier 1 cash payment: Class members who had their Social Security number compromised in the AT&T 1 data breach and do not submit a documented loss claim can submit for a pro rata cash payment. Tier 1 cash payments will be five times the amount of Tier 2 cash payments. The final Tier 1 cash payment amount will be determined by the number of valid claims submitted and remaining AT&T 1 net settlement funds.
  • Tier 2 cash payment: Class members who did not have their Social Security numbers compromised in the AT&T 1 data breach and do not submit a documented loss claim can submit for a pro rata cash payment. The final tier 2 cash payment amount will be determined by the number of valid claims submitted and remaining AT&T 1 net settlement funds.

AT&T 2 settlement benefits:

  • Documented loss cash payment: Class members can submit for up to $2,500 in monetary losses that occurred on or after April 14, 2024, and are fairly traceable to the AT&T 2 data breach. Class members that submit both AT&T 1 and AT&T 2 documented loss claims must provide unique documentation for each claim.
  • Tier 3 cash payment: Class members who do not submit a documented loss claim can submit for a pro rata cash payment. The final Tier 3 cash payment amount will be determined by the number of valid claims submitted and remaining AT&T 2 net settlement funds.
