What Happened?
On April 8, 2024, Woodfords Family Services discovered suspicious activity in its network, which was later determined to be a ransomware attack by the group known as MEDUSA.
The attackers claimed to have accessed approximately 198.5 GB of organization data and threatened to publish it on the dark web. Woodfords responded by securing its systems, taking parts of the network offline and engaging forensic specialists to investigate.
An investigation revealed that unauthorized access occurred on April 8, 2024, and data exfiltration activities were detected. The breach affected a total of 8,073 individuals in the United States, with 7,701 residents in Maine.
