What Happened?

On Aug. 11, 2025, Wellborn & Company’s third-party IT provider experienced a ransomware attack. This incident resulted in unauthorized access to certain data hosted on the provider’s systems, including information related to Wellborn & Company clients. The breach was disclosed to the Vermont Attorney General’s office on Oct. 13, 2025.

Wellborn & Company responded by investigating the incident with cybersecurity specialists, securing their systems, and switching to a new IT vendor. The firm also notified the IRS and relevant state regulators. Impacted individuals were offered complimentary identity monitoring services through IDX, with instructions provided in the notice.

  • You are eligible for complimentary identity monitoring services through IDX. Enrollment instructions and a unique code are included in the notice letter. The deadline to enroll is Jan. 10, 2026.
  • Monitor your financial accounts and credit reports for suspicious activity. You are entitled to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit bureaus.
  • Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze on your credit files to prevent unauthorized access. Contact Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion for more details.
  • If you suspect identity theft, you have the right to file a police report and report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission.
