What happened?

On or about July 9, 2025, WCIRB detected a network security incident involving unauthorized access to one of its third-party systems, Box.com. An investigation determined that an unauthorized actor acquired certain personal information during the incident.

Data mining efforts concluded on Sept. 18, 2025. WCIRB began notifying affected individuals by mail in Oct. 2025. The total number of affected workers is 2,766.

  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security number
  • Employment information
  • Health information
  • Medical records
  • Worker's compensation claims information

The breach was also reported to the California Attorney General’s office on Oct. 13, 2025, the Maine Attorney General and the Vermont Attorney General on Oct. 27, 2025, and the Massachusetts Attorney General on Oct. 28, 2025.
