What Happened?
On or about Sept. 16, 2025, Virginia Transportation became aware of unauthorized activity on its network.
After working with external cybersecurity professionals and conducting a forensic investigation, the company determined that files were likely copied from its network during the incident. By July 6, 2026, the company confirmed that sensitive personal information was impacted.

The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts and Vermont Attorney General's offices on July 23, 2026. In Massachusetts, 119 people were reported affected, while two people were affected in Vermont. The company has provided a notice of data breach with more details.
