What happened?

In August 2025, Victron Energy was the victim of a ransomware attack. The attack was perpetrated by a group known as Abyss. The attackers claimed to have obtained 2.3 terabytes of uncompressed data from Victron Energy and threatened to publish access to the data.

The data breach compromised both both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI). Victron Energy disclosed the data breach to the Texas Attorney General's office on Aug. 5, 2025.

The total number of affected individuals has not been released, but includes at least 1,457 Texas residents.
