What Happened?
On March 27, 2026, Vanderbilt Health discovered that an employee’s email account had been compromised after the employee clicked on a malicious link.
A subsequent investigation revealed that, on March 23, an unauthorized individual accessed certain documents and email attachments containing patient information.
Vanderbilt Health stated that the breach did not affect their electronic medical record system. However, the compromised email account may have exposed sensitive patient data.

- Patient names
- Medical record numbers
- Admission, discharge or visit dates
- Diagnosis or procedure information
- Provider or facility names
No Social Security numbers or financial account information were involved in this incident.
In addition to the email breach, a group called ZanzxyyXploit claimed responsibility for defacing Vanderbilt University’s website, with the incident posted on the open web on June 27, 2026.
