What was the June 2024 Ransomware Attack?
On June 19, 2024, U.S. Dermatology Partners experienced a significant network disruption caused by a ransomware attack. The cybercriminal group BlackBasta claimed responsibility, stating they accessed the company’s data and threatened to publish it on the dark web. The breach was posted on a tor network on July 15, 2024.
An investigation, assisted by external forensic experts, revealed that an unauthorized party accessed the company’s network and transferred certain files externally. After a comprehensive review completed in April 2025, it was determined that its patient's sensitive information was exposed.
U.S. Dermatology Partners began mailing notification letters to affected patients on May 30, 2025. The company is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services to those whose Social Security or driver’s license numbers were involved.
