On July 21, 2026, the company filed a notice with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, confirming that unauthorized actors gained access to certain customer information and related documents.
The attackers used the stolen data to fraudulently create lease-to-own agreements through the Acima Leasing platform, resulting in approximately $13 million in financial losses during the second quarter of 2026.
Upbound Group has since engaged external cybersecurity experts, strengthened its security controls, and notified federal law enforcement. The investigation is ongoing.
