UI Community HomeCare is a full-service provider affiliated with University of Iowa Health Care. The organization specializes in home infusion and medical equipment services, serving patients throughout Iowa as well as parts of western Illinois and northern Missouri.

The company offers home infusion therapy for chemotherapy, cardiac care, pediatrics, and bone marrow transplants. They also provide durable medical equipment, oxygen and respiratory services, and clinical support from a team of registered nurses, pharmacists, and technicians.

What happened?

On July 3, 2025, UI Community Homecare discovered a data breach that exposed both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI) of 211,000 individuals in their care. An unauthorized actor gained access to internal systems and viewed and copied files containing the patient information.

The cybersecurity incident impacted UI Community Home Care and UI Health Care patients. UI Community Home Care published a public data privacy event notice on its website. The organizations began notifying affected individuals by mail on Aug. 29, 2025.
