What Happened?
On March 13, 2025, Trocaire College discovered unusual activity in its digital environment. The college secured its systems and launched an investigation with the help of independent cybersecurity experts.
The investigation revealed that certain files may have been accessed or acquired without authorization between March 12 and March 13, 2025. After a detailed review, Trocaire College determined on Dec. 4, 2025, that personal information belonging to thousands of individuals was potentially affected.
The breach has been disclosed to the attorneys general offices of Maine and Vermont, as well as the Massachusetts OFCABR.
The breach impacted a reported 23,436 people in the United States, with 51 residents of Massachusetts and at least seven residents of Maine. On Jan. 16, 2026, the college began notifying affected individuals by mail.
