About TriCity Family Services
Founded in 1967, TriCity Family Services is a private, not-for-profit mental health care agency based in Geneva, Illinois. TriCity has provided counseling and mental health services to individuals and families in the TriCity area and central Kane County.
TriCity Family Services operates Monday through Friday, with extended hours on weekdays and appointments available on Saturdays.
What Happened?
In spring 2025, TriCity Family Services discovered evidence of unauthorized access to its systems, bringing in a third-party cybersecurity forensics firm to investigate. It was determined that between Nov. 11, 2024, and May 14, 2025, an unauthorized actor gained access to and downloaded files containing sensitive information from their network.
The breach was the result of a ransomware attack, with the group INC RANSOM claiming responsibility and posting about the hack on the Tor network.
The incident was reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Dec. 8, 2025, and affected a total of 2,511 people in the United States.
According to TriCity, the information exposed was limited to data collected at intake and did not include electronic medical records.
Information Exposed:
- Names
- Dates of birth
- Presenting problems

Your Rights and Next Steps
If you were affected by this breach, it is important to know your rights and take steps to protect yourself. TriCity Family Services has recommended that individuals remain vigilant by monitoring account statements, reviewing free credit reports and checking Explanation of Benefits for suspicious activity.
Under U.S. law, everyone is entitled to one free credit report each year from each of the three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. You can request your free credit report on their website or by calling 877-322-8228.
You also have the right to place a fraud alert or credit freeze on your credit file at no cost. A fraud alert requires businesses to verify your identity before issuing new credit, while a credit freeze restricts access to your credit report entirely.
For questions or assistance, TriCity Family Services has set up a dedicated call center at 888-360-9994, available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time, excluding holidays.
