About Telcom Insurance Group

Telcom Insurance Group is an insurance provider focused on serving the telecommunications industry, especially independent and rural telephone companies. Founded in 1982, the company offers business insurance solutions tailored to the unique risks of telecom enterprises, such as cybersecurity, directors and officers liability, workers’ compensation and other risk management options.

The company operates nationally, holding licenses in all states and maintaining industry memberships with organizations like IIABA, PIA and NTCA. Telcom Insurance Group recently announced a merger of operations with M&M Insurance, with the combined entity continuing under the Telcom Insurance Group name but officially adopting the M&M Insurance brand.

What was the Ransomware Attack?

Telcom Insurance Group was the victim of a ransomware attack carried out by a threat actor known as LYNX. On May 26, 2025, some of the company’s servers and files were encrypted, including files containing sensitive personal information.

The group claimed to have obtained data from the organization and threatened to publish it on the dark web within days. The incident was publicly posted on the tor network on June 23, 2025.

The company’s investigation revealed that the ransomware actors potentially accessed the email and work files of certain Telcom executives.

Telcom Insurance Group spent over $100,000 on forensic analysis and data mining to determine exactly what information was exposed and to identify affected individuals.

Information exposed:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers

The company began notifying affected individuals in August 2025 and continued as more were identified. The breach was reported to state authorities, including the Vermont and New Hampshire Attorney General’s offices, on Nov. 19, 2025.

In New Hampshire, two residents were confirmed to be affected.
