What Happened?
On April 23, 2026, Sysco became aware of unauthorized activity in certain parts of its computer environment. The company began an investigation, took steps to contain the incident, and engaged a leading cybersecurity firm.
By May 5, 2026, Sysco learned that an unauthorized third party may have obtained certain files from its systems. After an extensive review, Sysco determined on June 25, 2026, that personal information was included in the affected files.
The hacking group known as ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the attack, which was posted on the Tor network on June 14, 2026. The breach involved a ransomware attack, and the group claimed to have accessed over 61 million Salesforce records, including customer and employee data.
Sysco reported the breach to the Massachusetts and Vermont Attorneys General on July 28, 2026.
